Timmons Design is providing Sustainable Consultation, Master Planning, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Site Infrastructure design for the redevelopment of the Commons at Mount Burdell, located in Novato, California. The 64-acre campus includes the addition of office space, sports and health club, commercial and retail space, residential, child and senior care, and a community center.

The development will add approximately 705,000 gross sq. ft. to the existing campus, totaling 1,415,330 gross sq. ft.

The redevelopment is designed to achieve LEED Platinum and aims to exceed the performance targets of the 2030 Challenge by maximizing resource capture and reuse and recycling opportunities. In addition, the design seeks to reduce the reliance on district water supply system and the sewerage systems. The project aims to incorporate the following core objectives:

  • Zero Carbon - The development's goal is to achieve zero carbon emissions in building use by 2020 with new buildings designed to surpass California's Title-24 Energy Code by 80%. All existing buildings will undergo an energy upgrade to reduce energy use by a minimum of 50%.
  • Zero Waste - The building's food processing waste will be combined with sanitary waste processed in an anaerobic digester to create biofuel for reuse in the development.
